How to Dress to Activate Your Chakras

So, you're feeling stressed. Your job is unpredictable. You’re worried about finances. Anxiety is on the rise and self-care is low on your priority list.

How to feel better?

Instead of reaching for another cup of coffee to keep you going, why not consider dressing to activate your chakras!

What do I mean?

While decluttering my closet last fall, I noticed how the colors of my clothes changed over the years from working in the corporate world with a closet full of white, black, and gray to owning a holistic business with a closet full of peach, red, green, and purple with some white, black, and gray thrown into the mix!

Sure, the monochromatic colors made it easy to pack for business travel and last-minute coordination, but they were boring and didn’t do much to lift my mood.

Especially now that I’ve realized that wearing certain colors can influence our moods and lower our stress levels.

Simply put, wearing certain colors can influence the way you feel and activate your chakras, and give you outfits for every occasion.

In this post, I’ll help you understand how your personal style can include the 7 chakra colors and promote healing, self-care, and chakra balancing.

Colors to wear to activate your chakras

RED

Do you have financial challenges? Wearing red may help as it activates the root chakra, which is associated with grounding, safety, security, and reducing anxiety.

I feel like I am constantly challenged as a holistic business owner and want to keep myself grounded, fully present, and self-aware, which is where dressing to activate my chakras comes in. I’m not into wearing a rainbow of colors. In fact, it’s been a struggle for me to add bright colors such as red to my closet. That's probably because red is typically associated with aggression and power, so it makes some of us uncomfortable. But the color red can also be warm and comforting and help us connect to the earth and ground our energy, so we don’t feel so scattered and unsettled.

If red is too intense for you to add to a work outfit, try wearing red pajamas, socks, or slippers when lounging around the house. To get the greatest benefit, you don’t only have to wear the color, you must look at the color and take it in with your eyes, so it registers in your brain.

ORANGE

Nourish your emotions and sacral chakra by adding a splash of orange to your closet. Don't want to stand out that much? Maybe your sacral chakra is blocked or you just don’t feel comfortable wearing it?

Orange is an energetic, enthusiastic color. It’s associated with emotions such as hope, pleasure, and desire all of which make their home in the sacral chakra. I’ve found that there’s a way to incorporate the color of the sacral chakra and nourish our inner femininity by adding lighter shades of orange like apricot, peach, or melon, or moving towards the darker shades like terra cotta, bronze, and brown.

YELLOW

How do you handle conflict in unpredictable job environments and maintain your boundaries while expressing yourself?

If your answer is totally disengaging, pushing back, or internalizing it and eating your emotions, you probably have a weak solar plexus chakra. When I think of yellow what comes to mind is a bright sunny day, cheerfulness, and positive energy.

Isn’t this something we would all like to experience?

Well, you can by adding a little yellow to what you wear as often as you can. Maybe the brightest neon sunshine yellow isn’t a color that resonates with you. There are other shades that range from a buttery pale yellow to a darker gold with many variations in between that can be used to activate the power in your solar plexus.

GREEN

Want to know the power wearing green has on your heart chakra? Listen to anyone who spends time in nature, breathing fresh air away from all sources of pollution, feeling peaceful and connected. You may think this is a massive goal for you. To find peace and calm and reconnect with who you really are.

Before you dismiss it as impossible, let me tell you that you can do it. I did. I used to work long hours for an employer who didn’t care about me, was raising children, and caring for aging parents. The stress of financial challenges was thrown into the mix. To counteract this, I used to spend as much time as I could outside in nature.

I get it. Maybe that’s not possible for you and you’re wondering how you can use green to activate your heart chakra. Wear something green. Look at something green. Surround yourself with green! There are many shades that are popular right now with soft, pale green starting from the sage-y end of the spectrum all the way to tangy limes, basils, and emerald greens.

POWDER BLUE

“I don’t know the right words sometimes. I have to think about it before I speak. If I don’t have it right, then I can’t get it out” she explained as I energetically released the emotions stuck in her throat chakra.

We’ve all felt like this at one time or another, like we know what we want to say but just can’t get the right words out.

It happens when the front of the throat chakra is blocked. The throat chakra is all about authentic communication and when it’s strong you’re able to express yourself and your feelings without fear of disapproval but when it’s stuck you can’t find the words or keep quiet to avoid saying the wrong thing. When we dress to open the throat chakra, we can support its energy and make tasks that involve communication easier.

How? By wearing the most beautiful blue’s ranging from powdery barely-there shades to soft aqua’s to calming sky blues to ones that remind us of glacier lakes.

PURPLE

A part of being a millennial is that you’re faced with financial, economical, personal, and professional challenges daily. Whether you want to or not, your brain is constantly on the go - oftentimes it’s at 2 in the morning when you’d rather be sleeping!

Yeah, if you’ve been around my house, you already know that this is a common occurrence. The best ideas pop into my head at 3 am and I’m up writing with a cup of coffee in my hand! Mental clarity is associated with the third eye chakra so if you have many things going on during the day, your brain will work all night trying to sort them out. How can you slow it down? Use purple. Now I hear you - dark royal purple may not be your thing but what about trying some lighter shades like soft lilacs and lupine or even moving towards the violet-red-purple spectrum and trying very-peri which is a popular new shade of purple that is thought to encourage dreaming and healing.

WHITE

Sometimes I don’t even notice I’m feeling disconnected and uninspired until I take a break and suddenly realize, “whoa, this really doesn’t feel right for me” or wonder “who I am doing this for as it sure doesn’t feel authentic for me?”

Work-life balance will always seem like the biggest challenge because we’ve built this life and now have to sustain it. But that shouldn’t mean it is at the detriment of our health, our emotions, or our relationships.

White is the color of the crown chakra and is associated with cleanliness, freshness, simplicity and can create a fresh slate where we can be inspired and come up with new ways to solve old problems.

Adding the color white to our chakra fashion style will support the crown chakra and our desire for simplicity so we can clear our minds and focus on the things that REALLY matter.

I hope this gives you the encouragement you need to allow yourself to affect the way you feel by dressing in colors that activate your chakras, whatever that looks like! You are absolutely worthy of balanced chakras-and you will benefit because of it!
