Are You Eating Your Emotions?

 

 
 

You have the power to take control of your eating and stop eating your emotions by paying attention to what you are feeling. When you feel powerless, abandoned or unloved there is a good chance that you have blockages in your Solar Chakra.

The solar chakra is associated with self-care, EMPOWERMENT AND your SENSE OF BELONGING.

In your energetic field you hold a collection of information, experiences, thoughts and emotions from this lifetime and others. The problems begin when you are unable to express your emotions or traumatic experiences and they get "stuck" in your energetic field.  This stops the flow of energy into your body. So when you are feeling powerless, abandoned or unloved there is a good chance that there are issues with the energy flow in your Solar Chakra.

 

LACK OF ENERGY FLOW IN YOUR SOLAR CHAKRA CAN SHOW UP IN A FEW WAYS:

  • FEELINGS OF ABANDONMENT - if this is familiar it could be an indication that you are holding onto feelings of being abandoned from childhood
  • FEELINGS OF BEING UNLOVED (UNLOVABLE) - this could be an indication that you did not feel loved when you were little. 
  • PROBLEMS WITH DIGESTION - there could be structural issues with your Solar Chakra that are preventing you from taking in nutrients from your food

How do you know if you are eating your emotions?

ASK YOURSELF THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:

  • DO YOU CRAVE SALTY & SWEET AT THE SAME TIME? 
    If you do - it could be a clue to either a physical imbalance or an EMOTIONAL VOID in your life. Cravings are normal but when you can't seem to satisfy your cravings or, when you crave more than one thing at the same time such as salty & sweet, it could be a clue that your SYSTEM IS OUT OF BALANCE. If this sounds like you - take a moment to reflect on recent interactions with others. Ask yourself if something is bothering you or if you are feeling left out, abandoned or powerless - these could all be clues that you are trying to eat your emotions.
     
  • DO YOU CRAVE CRUNCH?
    If you do - you may be trying to BLOCK OUT YOUR ENVIRONMENT. Crunchy foods like chips, popcorn or even ice cubes create "noise" in your head when you eat them so they allow you to block out external noise.Pay attention to what is going on around you - this may be your way of subconsciously blocking it out so you have a little bit of time all to yourself.
     
  • DO YOU EAT MINDLESSLY?
    If you find yourself continually eating but NEVER FEELING FULL - you may be trying to fill an emotional void with food. When you notice yourself doing this - STOP - and ask yourself what you may be missing emotionally in your life.  Are you feeling unloved by those around you. If so, do something to help yourself that doesn't involve food. Practicing good self-care allows you to give love to yourself.
     
  • ARE YOU EVER FULL?
    It may sound odd but pay attention to your SATIETY LEVEL when you are eating a meal. Do you ever feel full or could you just keep going and going? If so, when you catch yourself doing this - you are going to have to make a conscious decision to stop eating! Recognize that you are no longer physically hungry and that there may be an emotional void you are trying to fill with food.

Gain self-awareness, make conscious choices and give yourself time to reflect on what you discover about yourself in order to stop your emotional eating by asking yourself the questions above. 

When you pay attention to the answers you may find that your cravings are linked to either a physical imbalance or an emotional void in your life. Or, you may discover that your interactions with others are not giving you what you need emotionally - you may actually find that the interactions are triggering your eating. As you gain self-awareness you can make better decisions.

Remember that you control what you eat regardless of what is going on around you - self-awareness is the key to happiness and you can start today!
